The brief

The homeowners wanted a more comfortable place to spend time outside, with enough privacy to relax without making the garden feel enclosed or disconnected from the house.

Our response

The deck was treated as an outdoor room rather than a separate platform. Its proportions support dining, gathering and everyday movement, while timber fencing screens the most exposed views. Planting and open sightlines keep the new structure connected to the wider garden.

The outcome

The finished space feels sheltered but generous: a durable, low-fuss outdoor area that works for busy family days, shared meals and quieter evenings at home.

A garden brought back to life

The brief

The existing garden had maturity and character, but overgrowth and unclear edges made the property feel disconnected. The aim was to reveal what was worth keeping and make the outdoor space easier to understand and enjoy.

Our response

Rather than clearing everything, the restoration began selectively. Valuable established plants were retained, sightlines were opened and paths, lawn and beds were given stronger definition. New planting filled gaps and repeated key forms so the garden felt cohesive instead of newly imposed.

The outcome

The garden now feels established, calm and purposeful. It keeps the shade, scale and personality that only time can create, while offering clearer movement, healthier planting and more manageable ongoing care.

The brief

The space needed practical circulation and a cleaner finish without becoming one large hard surface. Material choice had to work beside planting and feel comfortable in both bright summer light and Auckland’s wetter months.

Our response

Pavers establish the main route and provide stable footing where it matters most. Decorative stone is used between and around the harder lines, creating visual drainage and a more relaxed transition into garden beds. Carefully contained edges keep both materials looking deliberate.

The outcome

The result is structured without feeling severe: a durable, low-maintenance surface with enough colour, texture and variation to remain part of the garden rather than competing with it.
